The Basics of an IEP:
Any child who receives special education must have an IEP, or Individualized Education Plan.
Individualized means, that it is based upon your child's specific needs.
An IEP is updated each year with new goals. Depending on your child's needs there will be goals in the academic areas of Reading, Writing and/or Math.
These goals will be based on where the need or where the gaps are in your child's education. A present level of performance will be written which will explain what your child is currently able to do, but also what he or she still needs to accomplish.
The IEP team:
Prior to the IEP Meeting:
When I need to schedule a meeting with you, I will send home an Invitation to Conference, with a date and time for our meeting. Sometimes I might call you prior to sending home an invitation to set a date. If you are available to meet, you simply sign, date and return the invitation back to school with your child.
As always, if you ever have any questions about what is coming home, please don't hesitate to contact me.
